These days it is common knowledge to safe guard your personal information when discussing private financial matters. We here at the TCA advise owners to be highly cautious when being called at home completely out of the blue, by some unknown, to be propositioned with the opportunity to recoup the HUGE sum of money one may have lost during a fraudulent timeshare purchase.

In recent months we have seen multiple instances of owners reacting in dismay at receiving “Cold Calls” from Spanish governed roles. A recent report has detailed that the individual on the other end of the phone claims to be calling on behalf of either: The Spanish Tax Office, Spanish Court or Spanish Banks.

From here on in please take every word you hear with a pinch of salt, as it is never wise to trust a cold caller.

These people will already know when, where and more than likely how much you had been defrauded for by whichever timeshare organisation robbed you those many years ago. Really the question is how do they know the information and what allows them to recoup the lost capital which until now you, yourself had been unable to do.

The answer is simple, they no more have the power than you do yourself. The whole operation is nothing more than a scam, with little more than limited information on their victims these unscrupulous criminals prey on the vulnerable in an attempt to obtain additional money from you under the ruse of claiming compensation on your behalf.

During these call’s the individual will empathise with your loss and join in your disgust on the fraud you encountered, this is just to gain your trust and to try to get you to disclose additional private information to reel you in even further. These crooks will promise the world, while saying whatever they need to obtain your credit card details. Whether they state this charge is for legal fees, court costs or any other bogus fee, the outcome will be the same, you will be left out of pocket all over again.

Our recommendation for any owner who may have already received a call similar to the above, is to never pay upfront fees, always keep your personal details safe and secure, and ask for everything in writing.

So far this scam has seen not one victim one be awarded any form of compensation.

When the deal sounds too good to be true it most probably is.
