After a barrage of court cases and several losses, one substantial $20 million payout, reported last week by ourselves, in respect of the whistleblower fighting against her dismissal and the unethical high pressure techniques used in their sales.  It would seem that Wyndham want to try keep their neck above water to save their reputation.

Wyndham have chosen to continue their contribution to the education for residents of St Thomas in the Virgin Islands.  The Wyndham resort in St Thomas, opened to owners in 2015, however Wyndham have donated to the islands education system for the past 4 years running, since the construction commenced.

Their main aim is to help improve the quality of the education for the hospitality trade, this year they have provided two individual scholarships to eligible senior graduates whom wish to continue in pursuing their dreams by studying a hospitality and business degree, worth $10,000 each.  There was a donation of $10,000 to the Territorial fund based at the University of the Virgin Islands Summit and a further donation of $15,000 to the St Thomas department of Education.

These donations are to help the local community, and also to assist future leaders in the industry.  Karen Case, the senior vice president of Wyndham says

“At Wyndham Vacation Ownership we’re passionate about supporting the St. Thomas community, and these donations reflect our sustained desire to aide in the development and education of our future leaders.”

They see them as an effort to help the island grow.

Wyndham has also opened doors for over 100 job roles since the start of its project in 2013, in 2015 the Margaritaville Vacation Club started allowing members to stay at the resort, however it is not due to be fully completed until 2019, therefore the benefits of the education donations from four years ago should start to show by this time.  The resort has been said to want to improve future generations hopes and aspirations and their lifestyle by means of education and volunteer projects.

The total donation of $45,000 was gratefully received by St Thomas’ residents and their education system, together with the growth of the Margaritaville Vacation Club growth, and the continuing support towards education, it looks like the small island of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands is set to reap the benefits of better education and career prospects.  All down to Wyndham and their ethical behaviour.

Is it enough however, to sustain this reputation after the massive loss it has incurred last week in the payout in respect to its unethical practices, and is this donation sufficient?  Or, is it just a drop in the ocean in comparison to the acclaimed ‘bad practice’?  One will need to be patient to find out.  If you have any comments on this story, please get in touch, by calling or emailing us using the contact details just below this article.
