Another angry consumer tells of the bullying antics recently experienced whilst on holiday.

Yet again, another angry consumer feels they have fallen victim to the bullying nature of Wyndham’s Sales Team whilst attending a timeshare presentation. As they just checked into the hotel, with no time to even go to their room, they were approached by a young man who they assumed was a hotel employee. He was enquiring as to whether we had received our “welcome package”. He then proceeded to take us to a desk where another young man, very personable and fast talking, asked us what shows we wanted to see and what else did we want to do whilst in Las Vegas.

Having only just arrived and feeling slightly jet lagged they asked if they could maybe talk again tomorrow?  He invited them to breakfast the next morning where he stated they would talk about a new resort that might be of interest for them to stay in at another time.

When leaving the desk, they commented to each other that it was no doubt going to be a timeshare resort, having attended one of these ‘breakfasts’ on a previous holiday. The young man obviously overheard the conversation as he then assured them it was not the case.  He only wanted them to listen to a 90-minute presentation and show them the resort. He then threw in the complimentary gifts to seal the breakfast appointment.

The following morning, they met and were taken to another hotel, we they were ushered into a room at the back.  They were served a very unsatisfactory cold breakfast before being taken to another room to listen to the presentation.  They were told they could only leave the presentation should they need to use the bathroom or to get a refreshment!

Once entering the room, the presentation was held by another fast talker who was very confident and went through the usual sales spiel about how we deserved a high end holiday, unlike the other poor ‘layabouts’ casually wandering the streets of Las Vegas. He was very proud of the fact that he used to be a Lawyer and shared this fact with them; this made them quietly suspicious as to why he left such a successful career as a Lawyer to sell timeshare? Once the presentation was over they were re-assigned to their individual sales person who had sat with them during breakfast. The young man escorted them around the resort, which was of course beautiful. After, they were returned to the hotel, this ended up being over 2 hours later and things had not even finished.

The couple had already made it clear to everyone involved that they were not in a financial position to buy anything, yet the sales person continued to badger and hound them – to the point where the couple had to become blunt and finally say they were leaving and had fulfilled their part of the agreement to listen. The sales person’s pleasantries soon disappeared and he became obnoxious. This is something that we at the TCA are told about on a continuous basis.  The false, professional sales person can soon become a Jekyll and Hyde character morphing into the most offensive, unpleasant person when a deal seems out of grasp.

The sales person in this report then proceeded to bring in a very large Texan man, the Sales Manager, in a fake white buckskin jacket who had a ‘new’ price list for them?!  They were informed the same proposal was available to them ‘cheaper’, but with no clear explanation as to why. At this point the couple found the courage to stand up and leave – which is no mean feat when faced with two bullish characters aggressively selling.

The couple were truthful from the outset that they were not in a financial position to proceed at that time but ended up feeling pressured into the meeting which took the shine off of a holiday they had saved long and hard for.

They ended up deflated, bullied and intimated by the end of the presentation, especially when a second sales representative was involved.

This is the unprofessional nature within a hard sales environment.  We at the TCA would warn anyone using their resorts to avoid these bullying sales presentations at all costs as to not ruin your holiday.

Have you experienced the bullying tactics of Wyndham or any other timeshare resort, if so we are waiting to hear your story?
