We reported last Friday on a New Zealand widower that was conned out of $600 after falling for a common timeshare hoax.  She had booked a cruise following her husband of 37 years’ funeral, when a company called ‘Affordable Holidays’ contacted her telling her she had won vouchers to the sum of $4,500 for her trip.  She gave her credit card details over the phone which were then used to deduct money from her account which she hadn’t authorised.

Some good news came to Ramsay after going public about her ordeal last week.  A travel agent from her local community, Tamaru, in New Zealand got in touch with Mrs Ramsay after reading about her story in the newspaper.  Kate Flynn, managing director of Hello World gifted the widower a $500 travel voucher.  Ramsay was over the moon and emotional with joyous tears when she received the unexpected gift in the travel shop Hello World the day later.

Ramsay thanked Kate and told the papers

“I’m overwhelmed and really appreciate it”

She said that she went public after falling for the scam as she didn’t want others to fall into the same trap as she had.  However, she got more than she bargained for and received a complimentary travel voucher for close to the amount that she had lost.

It just goes to show that there is still good in the world.  With all of the credit card fraud and cold call hoaxes (ones related to timeshare among these) that we hear about today, there are also people that are kind and restore faith in humanity.  Ramsay can now relax in the thought of her upcoming cruise of the Pacific, on which she is taking her sister to share the experience.

She says that her sister has been there for her through all of the ups and downs of the past few years and she just wanted to take her on this cruise to relax and start to get over it all.  She can now do this with peace of mind knowing that she will not be out of pocket due to the timeshare hoax that she was caught up in.
