We reported on the 27th May about the widower Julieta Corredor, whom has had all the land wiped out around her vacation home in California was sitting firm.  She had not wanted to sell her condo on to Westgate Resorts, causing problems for them in their 24-million-dollar build.  Realistically Corredor was completely within her rights, and does not want to sell up the vacation home that their family have used for the past 30 years.  However, there is nothing left of the complex around her condo now, and in fact it is severely damaged to the point of inhabitable due to it being struck by ‘accident’ during building work carried on around the condo.

There was a meeting held last week between the two parties, Westgate Resorts representative Jim Hall and the Corredor family, in which there were three options laid down for the family.  Westgate Resorts proposed that:

  1. They would fix up the damaged unit, re-connect utilities, and place sidewalks around the property to make it habitable. Then they would continue with their plans around the property of the build of the tower.
  2. That they were prepared to purchase the holiday home in its actual state from the Corredor family. The price offered by Westgate has not been revealed.
  3. They could offer Julieta another holiday home in a resort close by, also owned by them.

Westgate believe that they are being fair with these offerings, but the Corredor family still seemed unsatisfied, so the Orange County administrator, Smogor, suggested that Westgate should offer the Corredor family a unit in the new towers that they are going to build on the site.  This idea did not seem appealing to Hall, the Westgate representative, and he argued that the rest of the condos that surrounded the Corredors’ property had been uninhabitable for the last ten years.

This is an ongoing discussion, with the two parties to meet again on June 22nd.  Julieta and her sons are standing strong to get what they want and not allowing bullying tactics of a major vacation company get the better of them.  The project has been put on hold until the nest meet, Smogor has asked them to come to an agreement and ‘shake hands and walk away and everybody’s happy.’

Let’s hope so, we will report on the outcome of the following meeting.
