We started reporting about a widow whom was being pushed out of her timeshare resort in Florida by Westgate Resorts back in May this year, and the dispute is continuing.  Julieta Corredor has now come back with a figure that she expects, not only for the value of her timeshare property, which she purchased back in 1985 for a mere $154,000 with her husband, but also for the compensation of damages and disruption that she feels her and her family have suffered with this ongoing saga.

Michael Marder, the lawyer defending Westgate Resorts, has declared

“That’s not a starting point for negotiations”

However, Julieta’s son, Carlos, has replied that it is

“A matter of principle for us”

Meaning the whole Corredor family.  The condo in question was damaged in the process of Westgate’s construction team starting to clear the land where they plan to build two timeshare resort towers in a project that is projected to cost them $24million.  It has been felt that this damage was made intentionally to the condo, as it was left uninhabitable.

The work onsite was halted back in July, when the two parties could not come to an agreement of settlement.  However, the halted project is costing a lot of time and money for Westgate, and Julieta has all the right as she never sold her timeshare unit, and Westgate did not exclude the land that her condo lies on in the permit for the construction of the new tower blocks.

It has been left that the two parties will meet again on October 18th to battle this out.  Julieta is appealing that Westgate should not be able to build around her condo that now stands alone, and Westgate is appealing that Julieta’s request for $2million compensation is outrageous, and that they should be allowed to construct the new tower building around Julietas land.  They have also offered to fix the condo so that it is habitable again.

We wait with baited breath to find out the outcome of the meeting on October 18th, it will be interesting to see if the bullying tactics of big conglomerate Westgate win or lose against the 81-year-old widow.  We will follow up on this article as soon as there has been some sort of conclusion met.
